Hi Mr. Greef,
Thanks for your comments.
Unfortunately for Mr. Piet Serdyn I hear he's since the article was written gone bankrupt & lost everything. The details I have gleaned will not be of use anymore.
The magazine Village Life who first printed the article has also gone under & folded.
My suggestion is that you contact the History Department of Cape Town University.
Someone there will help you I'm sure.

Dear Ina Brand. Thank you for your comment. But, could you tell me please what gave you the impression that "I did not know" about the Indonesian presence in Madagascar in historical times. That, if true, would be an unpardonable ommission on my part! Please read my book Indo-Africa: Towards a New Understanding of the History of Sub-Saharan Africa. Cape Town: Juta, 1981, where I have chapters on this subject . C.A. Hromník

Both my grandfathers were involved in helping Paul Kruger from Lydenburg to the border. Oupa Natie (Artillerist 868) of the 1st Transvaal Artillery Battery took Kruger from Lydenburg to machadodorp where Oupa Karel took him to the border. According to family Kruger said to oupa Karel there "Come with me, I will look after you in Europe" and he indicated that there is enough behind him for that. He declined. Both of them stayed behind and finished the war as "bittereinders". Ouppa Natie went with Jan Smuts to the Cape (as part of General Jaap van De Venter) where he returned with the peace treaty from Calvinia. When my parents married in 1951 they started talking and realised they were part of Kruger's flight to Europe.

Dear dr Hromnik,

I first became aware of your research about an 'Indian connection' via Pieter Pelser's "The hoax of Darwinism and the African Eve" .
As a 'boorling' of the Eastern Transvaal, as that part of the country was called then, I myself saw some of the terraces and the circular 'buildings' about which Michael Tellinger also seems to be exited.

Please carry on with your 'nonsense' and give the "beeskraal- academics" [ who are they?] some 'gas'.

Best of wishes.

If you are keeping data on local sightings, I wanted to report that we had a black leopard sighting at our nature reserve the evening of May 22, 2013 at 5:20pm (between our bushbaby dip and butterfly bridge).

3-5 seconds in full profile in front of vehicle before walking into the bush. 12 witnesses, but sadly no photos.
